3. Trademark and Copyright Law: advanced seminar (for JM and LL.M students)

The teaching materials used in these two advanced seminars are very forefront. Both seminars on Patent Law, Trademark and Copyright Law offer the latest original materials. In addition, Philips provides students with the Statutes of US Intellectual Property Law. This first-hand information makes students understand the law more accurately. Through learning many cases, everyone has a more accurate understanding on American intellectual property laws. Beside original materials, the teacher adds some cutting-edge content. The teaching way in English improves students English very well. The final examination is in unique style, for example, Patent Law seminar using the moot court as examination, which gives the students more exercises to improve their skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing with challenges.
Patent Law seminar is taught in a group of small size. For each class, students are required to finish their written assignments and to prepare the brief of cases. Almost every student has a chance to speak in class. In addition, Philips patent attorneys made a special trip from United States to give guides for moot court, which is very painstaking. As regard moot court, students can find partners as a team freely. The elected leader of team draws lots to decide the order, so as to reduce the difficulty of group work and the possibility of students to have free riding. As for the recommendations of the course, students hope to add the extra new cases and new developments, and at the same time want a little more practice content, such as check list in Philips practice which is very interesting.
Trademark and copyright law seminar is taught in class of relative large group. It requires no written homework. But, it is required that each student as the author of attached cases to present for each class. For every class, students represent the plaintiff and defendant as a team and teacher will ask questions and communicate with students. The team is also freely organized. They draw lots to decide the order.
All three courses are credited as official curriculum of Fudan University.
