Introduction to Fudan-Philips Intellectual Property Academy 

    On December 20, 2004, the signing ceremony of “Agreement on Cooperation for the Intellectual Property Academy” between Phillips (China) Investment Co., Ltd and Fudan University was held at Fudan University. Professor Cai Dafeng, Vice President of Fudan University, and Mr. Ruud Peters, Executive Vice President and CEO of Phillips Intellectual Property and Standard attended the ceremony on behalf of contracting parties. Professor Li Changdao, Dean of Law School of Fudan University and Mr. Ruud Peters, CEO-Philips IP&S signed the Agreement. The Agreement was entered into enforce from the date of signature for one year. It was then extended in May 2006, May 2007, May 2009, June 2011 and June 2012.

Mr. Jimmy Zhong, Vice President and Head of Philips IP&S, China and Professor Zhang Naigen, Director of Center for Intellectual Property, Fudan University exchanged the text of Renewal Agreement.

    In accordance with the Agreement, Fudan - Phillips Intellectual Property Academy was officially established on May 25th, 2005. Since September 2005, Phillips has arranged many senior intellectual property experts as visiting professors of Fudan University to teach the courses in English on intellectual property law, patent law and intellectual property Law in international trade focused on trademark and copyright law each year for the JM students at Law School. The project intents to disseminate the knowledge of IP and improve the IP law by teaching law students the professional knowledge of international Intellectual property. So far, nearly one thousand JM and LL.M students have taken the optional course given by the visiting professors of Fudan - Phillips Intellectual Property Academy.

Visiting Professor Jack E. Haken, Vice President of IP & S (US), who taught IP courses during the period of 2005-2011, granted the certificates for the excellent student of the courses.
